At 0500 local time in Osaka, Japan, I received a phone call from the Air Force Rescue Service advising that the ELT in my L-39, N39WT, was transmitting from Boulder City, NV. A good friend and excellent L-39 pilot and instructor was flying it - no names, yet, please until I'm sure all of his family have been notified. "Papa Bear" was known to almost everyone in this community. Google it for the news reports. The aircraft was not in such bad shape after the crash yet neither occupant survived. The engine continued running for quite a few minutes. It's a very sad day.
