8130.2G Update
Sep 28, 2011 - April 16 of this year was not a good day for CJAA members. Revision 2G of FAA Order 8130 (Airworthiness Certification) was published with inconsistencies and apparent typos; there was no provision for jets under 12,500 lbs, operation over densely populated areas was nonsensical, restrictions on ejections seats severely restricted the aircraft, and so on.
Prior to publication, the FAA recognized that errors had crept in and promised corrections in the form of a future amendment. Several meetings with the FAA by an industry representative group combining EAA, CAF and CJAA, led to a constructive airing of industry concerns and issues. And earlier this month, the FAA responded with a proposed amendment draft.
There are still details to be ironed out, but the proposed amendment realistically and pragmatically appears to address industry’s concerns. CJAA is not free to distribute the draft or its contents, but is pleased about the progress and looks forward to another member update when the amendment is published.
